5 steps to balance a full-time job with the role of business owner
Are you juggling a full-time job & a start-up business...?
Some people make it look easy while they transition out of their Corporate career, while for others it feels like a constant stress, struggle plus the problem of time (or lack of it!)
First of all, it's not easy for anyone to juggle this process - so you're certainly not alone.
I coach a range of clients who are in this exact situation; helping them find focus, clarity and time - so that when they sit down to work at the end of a busy day, they know exactly how to proceed.
Below are 5 steps to balance the transition from Full-Time job to Business Owner:
Create a Roadmap
Set aside 2 x 1.5hr sessions to work on your roadmap. You'll need some inspiring stationery (of course!) and a roll of paper - I buy mine here.
Plot where you want to be in 12 months time. Once you have clarity with this, identify the steps you need to take in the next 3 months to get you there.
Become extremely clear on where you want to take your business, and from there you can work backwards to create tasks which will help to reach your ultimate goals.
Plan your content
Plan content so you're clear on your messaging and informationyou'll be providing your audience.
Focusing on a theme and creating a range of content within this theme is a smart and efficient way to work. It's also great for your audience, as they can find a variety of information from you within a certain topic. (this is how you begin to become an authority within a niche)
Some people use a Content Calendar, although personally, I find this another layer of work. As long as you're clear on what you're messaging is, you can get away with not using a calendar - however this is completely up to you and your personal work style.
Manage your time
Time is one of the biggest challenges transitioning entrepreneurs face.
Create a realistic schedule which allows you a bit of 'slip and slide'.
Ensure each week allows you to work on tasks which involve both growth and maintenance of the business.
Know your core focus for your business. The more targeted your focus, the more wins you'll achieve.
Work in chunks. 1-1.5hr blocks work best, and during these times, know what you need to achieve.
This is how I work every time I sit down at my desk. As a result, productivity levels are high - give it a try!
If you feel like you're doing everything except your to-do list, it's time to remove distractions.
