Q & A with Anna Giannis, Melbourne Interior Designer

Anna Giannis

Tell me about yourself

I am grateful for my artisan parents, for encouraging and cultivating my creativity from a very young age. I have been in this line of work approaching twenty years later this year in 2021. I have been very lucky and grateful to have worked all over the world including Australia, New York, Dubai, Shanghai and Europe. The projects have been amazing working with clients in creating their bespoke private interiors, residential styling, creating luxe lifestyle products, homewares and fashion collections.

How would you describe your style and how it has evolved over the years?

Style is a personal characteristic and as a designer it changes as we do… I have found that I am loving to mix different colours and push the boundaries of combining finishes more and more…

What tips would you give someone in their early years building their Interior Design Business

Surround yourself with other creative people. Don’t be afraid to experiment with finishes on a project and show your client what they could have and never give up!

What are you working on at the moment?

I am loving the projects I am working on at the moment. One of the projects is a 130 sq French Provincial Chateaux, the other a double story inner Melbourne Victorian, an interstate apartment in Brisbane and many other styling projects.

What is an interior design trend you’re seeing at the moment?

There are many and different trends going on at the moment.

Furniture

In furniture is seeing the classic 70’s reappearing as seen by B&B Italia revamping the Mario Bellini sofa first created in 1970.

Sustaineable Design

Many designers around the world are passionate about making products that are even more environmentally friendly.

Mono and Beige

Mixing these two tones creates warmth and luxury. For the minimalist it is great and for people who was more, adding different timbers and textures to this palette creates a wow factor.

What are some questions you ask a new client prior to commencing the project?

  • Do you have a vision board?

  • Are you in love with a piece of art or rug that we can work with to create the ambiance of a room?

  • When would you like to start?

  • Is there a budget? If so, please share…

Is there a hurdle with your job that you continuously encounter

Yes many sleepless nights…as I often get my best ideas when I close my eyes….!

What you love most about Interior Design

I love the fact that you can create your own bespoke residence just the way you want it. There are many different and new finishes always emerging and that is always exciting.

Where people can find you

In terms of my work people find me through word of mouth… I have found that I haven’t advertised as yet and that suits me as I know that when I am contacted it's because people want to work with me as they have seen my work.

But I am on Instagram HERE
